WAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP BUSINESS AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Visitors will discover that Wakefield Township is proud of its long standing tradition of providing excellent services for its residents and businesses. You will find our services to be outstanding in comparison to many parts of the country, while still enjoying one of the lowest tax rates in the nation. We are excited about the opportunities that we can provide to potential businesses, which include one renaissance zone location and one industrial development zone. Both programs offer tax savings for new businesses that choose to locate here.

We currently have vacant land available at our Industrial Park located just off County Road 519 and Planter Road. Two vacant 1.5 acre lots are available.  If you need more property Gogebic County Forestry owns an entire section of property which may be available for additional purchase or lease. There is rail access near this property and a ready railroad siding about 1 mile away. The property is served by well and septic with a creek nearby for high volume water users.  Internet, natural gas, high capacity electrical service, and access by an all season road make this a very attractive place to locate your business.  Currently there are two businesses occupying the park, a global mold maker, Extreme Tool and Engineering, and a metal recycling business, Western U.P. Recycling.  Both businesses have been expanding their businesses and hiring new workers.

Another great business site is located on US-2 about 2 miles west of the M-28/USintersection in Wakefield. It has Renaissance Zone tax benefits which expire in 2017. It is privately owned, and the owner, M.D. Associates, is willing to sell parcels on this 32 acre tract.  This site is serviced by the City of Wakefield sewer and water system, and has large volume and capacities in both utilities, in addition to other infrastructure needs. It is in an excellent location with three other businesses nearby.
